Funeral and celebration of life ceremonies
I am truly sorry for your loss
When someone we love dies, the world changes in an instant.
There are no perfect words, no easy goodbyes — only love, memories, and the deep ache of loss.
In the midst of grief, my role is to gently walk beside you. To listen. To hold space. To help you honour a life in a way that feels true and meaningful.
Every life is a story — filled with laughter, struggles, triumphs, quiet moments, and deep love.
A funeral should never feel like a template. It should feel like them.
I take the time to truly understand who your loved one was — their personality, their passions, their quirks, the way they made people feel. Together, we create a ceremony that reflects their spirit and the impact they had on the lives around them.
Whether the service is traditional, spiritual, non-religious, or completely unique, it will be shaped with care, compassion, and authenticity.
You are not meant to navigate this journey alone. With compassion and steady support, I will help ease the practical pressures so you can focus on remembering your loved one and the love that surrounds you.
Things you may be wondering...............
What is a funeral celebrant?
A funeral celebrant is a professional who designs and leads personalised ceremonies to honour and celebrate a person’s life. Unlike religious officiants, celebrants aren’t bound to any particular faith, which means the ceremony can be religious, spiritual, secular, or a blend of elements. The priority is always to reflect the individual who has died and to create a farewell that feels meaningful and right for their family.
Do we need to book you through our chosen funeral director?
You’re welcome to book me directly, or your funeral director can suggest me and manage the booking for you—whichever feels right for you.
I’ll work closely with your funeral director on timing, logistics, and all the practical details. They take care of the arrangements, while I focus on the ceremony. Together, we make sure everything runs seamlessly and with care.
Where do we start? There's so much to consider
When we first meet, we’ll spend time talking about your loved one—who they were, what was important to them, and the kind of ceremony that would best honour their life. I’ll gently guide the conversation with questions, listen closely, and take notes. There’s no expectation to have everything figured out straight away.
You’re welcome to call or message me at any point along the way. A few days before the ceremony, I’ll send you a draft for review. You’ll have time to read through it, suggest changes, and make sure it feels right. Nothing is final until you’re comfortable with it. This is your ceremony, and it should reflect what feels right for you—I’ll happily make any adjustments needed until you’re completely satisfied.
Can we have a Celebration of Life service instead of a funeral?
Yes – a celebration of life service may sometimes feel more appropriate for your loved one. While both funerals and celebration of life services are designed to honour a person’s life, they differ in timing, format, and whether the body is present.
In a celebration of life service, the body is usually not present, which allows the ceremony to take place at any time after the death—sometimes weeks or even months later. They often offer greater flexibility in planning, including a wider choice of venues and styles. They can also be less formal in tone, focusing more on celebrating the life of the deceased rather than on the final resting place of their body.
Funerals, by contrast, typically occur soon after the death and are scheduled around the burial or cremation.
Can friends and family speak at the ceremony?
Yes, many people find that speaking at a funeral is a meaningful way to honour their loved one and can be an important part of their grieving process
I can help you choose readings and poems that feel meaningful and fitting. Depending on your preferences, I’ll either write the eulogy or be on hand to help if a loved one is writing it.
If, on the day, someone feels unable to speak, I will prepare the script so I can speak on their behalf. We’ll also discuss discreet ways to communicate this during the ceremony, so it feels seamless and supportive.
How much do your services cost?
I charge £250 for a standard funeral service that lasts 30-45 minutes. This price includes
- Our initial meeting, plus further consultations by telephone or email,
- Ceremony writing and delivery,
- Coordination with funeral directors and venues,
- Guidance on music and readings,
- A keepsake copy of the ceremony script.
- Travel costs within a 20 mile radius of Guisborough.
- Note: I make no charge for the funerals of children
How do you handle sensitive or challenging family circumstances?
Every family is unique, and sometimes that includes layered relationships or sensitivities. My role is to create a respectful, safe space where everyone feels comfortable and acknowledged.
During our planning conversations, I take time to understand what matters most to you and any dynamics to be mindful of. Whether there are blended families, estranged relationships, or delicate circumstances, we’ll shape a ceremony that feels inclusive, thoughtful, and true to your wishes — handled with care and professionalism throughout.
“Jennifer was an exceptional celebrant and conducted Joe’s funeral with great compassion, professionalism, and care. She took the time to truly understand Joe and created a service that genuinely reflected his life and character. Her words were thoughtful and heartfelt, striking the perfect balance between dignity and warmth, and brought comfort to everyone present. The service felt personal, well-prepared, and deeply meaningful, and it helped us say goodbye in a way that felt right. We are very grateful to Jennifer for the respect, kindness, and care she showed to Joe and to our family during such a difficult time."
